Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the compliance process take?

The compliance process typically takes 1-3 weeks from initial application to final approval. This includes Standard DBS checks (5-10 working days), reference verification (3-5 days), and right to work confirmation (1-2 days). We'll keep you updated throughout.

Do I need food safety certification?

Food safety certification is required for kitchen and food handling roles. If you don't have it, we can provide guidance on accredited online courses. Most courses take 2-4 hours and cost between £10-30. Some employers may provide this training as part of induction.

What if I have a gap in my employment history?

Employment gaps are common and not automatically disqualifying. We'll ask you to provide an explanation for any gaps exceeding 3 months. Reasons such as illness, further study, travel, or caring responsibilities are understood. We assess each situation individually and transparently.

Can I start work while my DBS check is pending?

Yes, for most hospitality roles, you can often start work pending DBS completion, especially for front-of-house positions. However, kitchen and sensitive roles may require DBS clearance before starting. We'll advise you on a case-by-case basis. Your employer will make the final decision.

How often do I need to renew my DBS check?

DBS Standard Checks are valid for 3 years. We'll remind you when renewal is due. Some employers may require more frequent checks (annually) depending on their specific requirements. We'll inform you of any additional requirements when placing you with an employer.

What if I have a previous conviction?

Having a conviction doesn't automatically exclude you from hospitality work. We assess each case individually based on the nature, severity, and time elapsed since the offense. Some convictions may be filtered under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. We encourage you to disclose any convictions upfront so we can properly advise you.
